Terengganu to launch eat more mutton campaign
The Terengganu government will launch a campaign to encourage people to eat more mutton in the hope of increasing the state’s mutton consumption to 500,000kg a year, from 3,500kg a year now.
State Agriculture and Small Industry Committee deputy chairman Muhammad Pehimi Yusof said a study had revealed that mutton consumption among the locals was not high enough.
“Many people don’t take mutton because of the belief that eating the meat can increase their cholesterol level, causes headache and high blood pressure.
“Actually, mutton contains lower cholesterol than chicken, buffalo and sheep meat,” he told reporters after opening a satay stall – Kedai Satay Kaprima – here yesterday.
Muhammad Pehimi said by 2010, the mutton output in Terengganu was expected to reach 260 metric tonnes, up from 140 metric tonnes this year.
The state government had allocated RM1mil this year for the development of 70 Kaprima micro projects involving 700 goat studs, he added.
